The Tessa Fuchs Chamber Series

The Halesworth Arts Festival  is delighted to present another series of fortnightly concerts on Sundays in February and March, featuring some of this country’s best young musicians. Tessa Fuchs, who was the inspiration for the series, was passionate about giving up and coming performers the chance to play in our beautiful converted maltings building. The series is now in its fourth year.

All concerts are at The Cut Arts Centre in Halesworth and start at 2.30pm. Full details of each are on the Festival website, www.halesworthartsfestival.org.uk. The 14th annual Halesworth Arts Festival will run from 10th to 25th October and details will be available in July 2015.

The Aurora Trio was established by Emma Halnan (flute), Joe Bronstein (viola) and Heather Wrighton (harp) in 2012 at the Royal Academy of Music.

Engagements have included performances for the West Chiltington NADFAS society, Benslow Music Trust, Hertfordshire, The Victoria and Albert Museum and The Royal Academy of Music. The Trio have a number of future recitals planned.

They have been awarded a prestigious chamber music fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music for the academic year 2014/15.

 HALCYON QUARTET

Mozart:  String Quartet in Bb Major K. 458

Mendelssohn:  String Quartet No. 2 in A min Op. 13

Bliss:  String Quartet No. 2

Formed in 2012 by four undergraduate students at the Royal Academy of Music, the Halcyon Quartet, under the tutelage of violist Martin Outram, has quickly established itself as an engaging, passionate, and dedicated chamber ensemble. As well as being one of the youngest groups awarded a place on the Academy’s prestigious Davey-Posnanski Quartet Scheme, the quartet has been granted many performance opportunities and masterclasses with high-profile musicians and ensembles.

Recently, Halcyon has worked closely with Levon Chilingirian and the Chilingirian Quartet, Sylvia Rosenberg, Garfield Jackson, Richard Ireland, and members of the Escher, RTÉ Vanbrugh and Wihan Quartets. In 2013 and 2014, Halcyon was featured in the Royal Academy’s 400+ Concert Series and Mozart Series, and awarded performance opportunities at West Dean College and King’s Place.

Formed in 2009 and based in London, the Quintet comprises top young wind musicians, who perform with some of the world’s finest orchestras and ensembles.  Since 2012, the quintet has been the Associate Ensemble in Residence at the Birmingham Conservatoire and this year has begun a new residency at the Purcell School.

The Quintet have performed throughout the UK, in venues such as London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and The Forge, Camden.

In 2013, the Quintet toured the Czech Republic as part of the Mlada Praha Festival, the first British ensemble ever to have been invited to join the prestigious festival.

 PIATTI QUARTET

The Piattis are amongst the UK’s foremost young string quartets, with a host of awards and critically-acclaimed recordings to their name. They have performed in all the major venues around the country, including a live BBC Radio 3 broadcast from the Wigmore Hall.

The Quartet spent two years as Leverhulme Fellows at the Royal Academy of Music and have received both Tunnel Trust and Countess of Munster awards. Park Lane Group have also supported the group extensively with a UK-wide concert tour and a recording on their Classical Label. Other recordings have been released on the Linn Records and Champs Hill labels, including the Piatti’s lauded contribution to the complete string quartet works of Felix Mendelssohn (Champs Hill), which was BBC Music Magazine’s Critic’s Choice (September 2014).

The group takes its name from the great 19th-century cellist Alfredo Piatti, who was a leading professor and exponent of quartet playing at the Royal Academy of Music.
