Hundreds of people have turned out for the British Open Crabbing Championships in Suffolk.

Walberswick, near Southwold, hosts the annual event in which competitors have 90 mins to catch the heaviest crab armed only with a single line and bait.

Robin Buncombe from the British Crabbing Federation said the day was about raising money for charity and providing affordable fun for people.

“We give everybody the chance to have a fun day out at modest cost,” he said.

“Never mind money raised or anything like that, if you see the look on a child’s face when he lifts his first crab out of the water that far surpasses any money raised for charity,” he said.
