Jack and the Beanstalk Apex

It’s Christmas Jim, But Not As We Know It!

As we know, December is shaping up to be a little bit different this year, with many of our favourite festive events cancelled. However, West Suffolk council have laid on some activities for you and your family, that could help to inject a little fun into the pre-Christmas period.

Sadly, there’s no traditional pantomime in many towns this year, including Bury St Edmunds, but riding to the rescue is Blue Peter legend Peter Duncan, with his biggest and best ‘Here’s One I Made Earlier’!

Jack and the Beanstalk

Peter, an acclaimed Panto Dame, writer and director, has decided to use his own massive back garden to film Jack and the Beanstalk, a socially distanced pantomime, complete with ingenious sets, fabulous costumes and even a real beanstalk. You can see the resulting mayhem at The Apex on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December at 2pm & 5pm.

Keeping spirits high and your family safe, you can watch the show on The Apex’s big screen from socially distanced tables in the stalls and seats in the balcony. Although this is a film screening of a pantomime, not a live performance, they still promise plenty of boos, hisses, “he’s behind you”s and all the classic panto antics that you know and love.

Over at Moyse’s Hall Museum, Father Christmas will be in his traditional Grotto on Sunday 20th December. Your little one can tell him their Christmas wishes, before he heads off for his busiest day of the year! To keep you safe, and give you a little extra time with Santa, each family group/bubble will be given a 10-minute time slot (there will be a thorough cleaning between each visit).

Also at Moyse’s Hall, The 12th Annual Sci-Fi and Action Exhibition, The Museum Strikes Back will continue until 20thJanuary. This intergalactic exhibition for all ages features props, artwork, studio replicas and a real live (not live) Gremlin!

Tasmin Little
Tasmin Little

Tasmin Little has firmly established herself as one of today’s leading international violinists, in fact The Independent declared, “Little can justly be regarded as Britain’s finest violinist.” Having recently announced that she would be retiring from concert performance, the last chance to see and hear Tasmin playing live will be at The Apex on Tuesday 22nd December at 3pm & 7.30pm. Playing Sonatas by Mozart and Franck, she will be accompanied by Martin Roscoe: “…I haven’t heard playing from any recent pianist that surpasses Roscoe’s…” – BBC Music Magazine. The reduced capacity and socially distanced seating will ensure your safety and remain within government guidelines.

If you’d like to get crafty, Booze and Brushes at The Apex are offering a fun painting session on Monday 7th December and a Standing Christmas Tree painting workshop on Thursday 17th and Monday 21st December. Suitable for everyone, you will be guided step-by-step throughout, and at the end of the night you can take home your very own masterpiece!
