The International Brotherhood of Magicians (British Ring) is heading to Great Yarmouth, for the first time since 1991, with hundreds of magicians for its 76th Annual Convention from 26-30 September 2012, www.magicconvention.co.uk.

Sooty makes an appearance with his children’s Magic Show at 10.30am on 29 September and Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee headline a public Gala of Magic at 8pm that evening. Both shows are at The Britannia Pier Theatre.

Sooty’s Magic Show, compered by clowning duo Clivo and Jeani, features Sooty with Richard Cadell, ventriloquist Andy Greaves, illusionists Jason Steele and Joanne and magician Mel Harvey. There’s also an opportunity to meet Sooty after the show. Tickets are £6 children and £8 adults.

The Gala of Magic with Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee also includes North Walsham magician Roy Davenport, John Styles, Steve Hewlett and Scott Penrose. Tickets are £18, box office tel. 01493 842209.

There’s community magic on the afternoon of Thursday 27 September, when magicians will be staging free shows at St. George’s Infant and Nursery School, Greenacre Primary School, Salisbury Residential Care Home and Eversley Nursing Home in Great Yarmouth. The tradition of providing free magic in the local community dates back to 1955.

Illusionists, children’s entertainers, mentalists (mind readers) close up and stage magicians will be entertaining and teaching their fellow magicians throughout the convention, which is being organised by President Brian Miller, Peter Scarlett and David Ball. There are competitions in close up and stage magic, each with a £1,000 prize.

John Pye, International President of The International Brotherhood of Magicians, will be attending the convention. He is only the fourth UK magician to hold this office in the society’s 90-year history.

Alan Carr, Head of Tourism Great Yarmouth said:

“It is going to be a truly magical five days. We are really looking forward to welcoming back the International Brotherhood of Magicians British Ring. There’s going to be a real buzz in Great Yarmouth in late September with the magicians taking over the Britannia Pier, Hollywood Cinema and Marina Centre for their special events. We are delighted that they will be bringing magic into the community, giving those unable to attend public events a taste of the best of British magic.”

Brian Miller, President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians British Ring said:

“We are delighted to be back in Great Yarmouth and look forward to enjoying the much improved facilities that have been provided since our last visit. We hope the local community will support our top class Gala Show on September 29th where they will see some of the best of Britain’s magicians.”
