Dereham-Hospital-fete

People living in the Dereham area have been invited to take part in a fun-packed afternoon of activities and entertainments while raising vital charity funds at the same time.

The Friends of Dereham Hospital’s bi-annual fete will take place on Saturday, June 21 2014 to raise money to further enhance the environment at the town’s hospital, which is run by Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C).

The fete will be opened at 2pm by BBC weather presenter Julie Reinger, and will feature a range of attractions to keep people of all ages entertained, including music from Derrick and DOSYTCo, a classic car display and a wide variety of stalls, games and refreshments.

Money raised during the afternoon will be used by the Friends to purchase extra equipment for the hospital and items to make the time patients spend there more comfortable. Recent purchases have included pressure mattresses, furniture for the ward quiet room and a special bed for patients at risk of falling.

Joanne Sebire, Chair of the Friends of Dereham Hospital, said: “The hospital is vitally important for the people of Dereham and the surrounding areas, so we are keen to raise as much as we can at the fete to support its important work and make a difference to patients.

“We’ve arranged all sorts of different activities and entertainments during the afternoon, including traditional games, refreshments, a wide variety of stalls run by local charities and organisations, live music and a display by Busy Bodies Stage School. We hope that the fete will offer something for everyone and would encourage people to come along, have some fun and support their local hospital at the same time.”

Dereham Hospital provides general rehabilitation on its 24 bed Foxley Ward, along with a range of outpatient services, including leg ulcer clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation, musculoskeletal physiotherapy and speech and language therapy.

The Friends of Dereham Hospital are independent of the hospital, but play an important role in improving the environment for patients and staff. They also run a trolley shop for inpatients to make their admission more comfortable.

“We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from the Friends,” said Andrew Pover, Ward Manager of the Foxley Ward, who will hold a stall at the fete to promote the work of NCH&C and explain more about the care the Trust offers across the county.

“The money they generously raise for the hospital makes a real difference to patients and colleagues, and helps us to do that little bit more to make people’s visit to hospital more comfortable.”

The fete takes place between 2pm and 4pm on the lawned area at the front of the hospital grounds, and everyone is welcome to attend.
