Landscape Revolution

A Landscape Revolution?

Introductory Workshop

Date: 16 April 2016
Time: 10:30 – 13:00
Location: Santon Downham Village Hall., IP27 0TL

The landscape of the Brecks was transformed in the period c.1700-1930. Many parishes experienced dramatic change during this time as heathland commons were replaced by enclosed fields and plantations. This project will seek to chart these changes and explore the stories behind them, drawing together existing research and presenting new findings through a new project website using interactive maps.

This introductory workshop is for anyone interested in the project, and who might be interested in getting involved as a volunteer. There will be a short talk on the project, and the landscape history of Breckland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, followed by an opportunity to look at historic maps and other sources from the period.

The workshop will be led by a member of the UEA team, Dr Jon Gregory, Dr Sarah Spooner and Professor Tom Williamson.

There will be opportunities to get talk to the project team about how to get involved, and to do some practical, hands-on activities involved historic maps.

The Workshop is free to attend but places will need to be booked in advance – please click on the link for more details.
