Mabey Britannica – Richard Mabey’s life in writing

The conservationist, botanist and award-winning author Richard Mabey, who The Times described as ‘Britain’s greatest living nature writer’, will give an intensely personal account of how his passion and respect for the natural world has been the central and motivating thread throughout his life.

From his prescient 1972 work, Food for Free, to the ground-breaking Flora Britannica and his widely praised memoir, Nature Cure, Richard always brings feeling, insight and intimate experience to his exploration of the changing natural world around us and how it influences our lives.

2010 is a red letter year for Richard, with the publication of no less than six titles, including reissues of old classics like The Unofficial Countryside. So his talk this week will be in the manner of a rare retrospective look over a life in books, with particular reference to the role Norfolk has played in his writing.
