Harleston Magpies Hockey Club marked two important achievements on Saturday when Martin Gotheridge, President of England Hockey, presented the Club with its Clubs 1st award and Nick Boulter, Senior Development Manager of Sport England, congratulated the Club on the refurbishment of its sand-based artificial grass pitch.

Mr Gotheridge paid tribute to the work of the Club’s youth committee, under the chairmanship of Helen Barber, in achieving Clubs 1st status and together with Club Chairman, Mike Denham, thanked Sport England for their invaluable grant of £35000 towards the upgrading of the pitch.

The presentation was held at the end of a youth coaching session as Clubs 1st, England Hockey’s nationally recognised accreditation for sports clubs, is focused on young members with particular regard to child protection, coaching, club management and sports equity.
