Matthew Denny

I am very sorry to record the death at the age of 39 of Matthew and I am sure all members will wish to extend their condolences to his parents (and club vice-presidents) David and Jane on their great loss. Matthew, like his late brother Jonathan, was a very supportive member of the club. Sadly his failing health prevented him from attending the club in recent years. Matthew’s funeral was held last Friday at All Saints Church, Alburgh and was attended by many relatives and friends who will remember Matthew with great affection.

Musings will be once again be issued weekly from early September. However, I’m sorry to say that this will definitely be the last season when it is produced by the present author. I know you’ve heard this before but this time there will be no going back!

IT IS A BIG ‘THANK YOU’ TO

Everyone who helped run and support the three social and fund raising events held over the summer. The 80th Anniversary Ball made the splendid profit of £6400, the Strawberry Luncheon raised £1044 and the Golf Day made £1677 for club funds. I have been asked to point out that the profit from the Ball came from bar and wine sales and the casino, raffle and auction with the ticket price just covering the very considerable expenses such as marquee hire, catering, band etc. (Please see the website for the 2015/16 social and fund raising programme).

The club members who have paid for the new LED scoreboard on the water-based pitch and to David Cobbald and John Moore for its installation. The board was in use for the first time last Saturday when the Men’s 1sts had a practice match and MOTM Archie Winter had the distinction of scoring the first home goal to be recorded by the board! The board has space for double figure scores so no more will I be asked what I’m going to do when we (or heaven forbid) the opposition get to ten goals!

Tony Williams, Sue Williams, John Pestell and Andy Johnson for decorating the disabled toilet and first floor of the clubhouse. It is also thanks to Charlie Blandy for his cameo appearance when he joined us for a couple of hours! John and his wife Maureen have sadly (from the club’s point of view) put their house on the market prior to returning to the Midlands to be nearer their family. John and Maureen would welcome your offers!

CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO

Andy Hipwell and Amy Tuffs on their marriage on Saturday 4 July and to Helen Brook and Christophe Rident on their marriage on Saturday 8 August.

BEST WISHES TO

Kirstin Cumming (following her broken wrist), Stuart Leate (following the nasty blow he received on an elbow last Saturday on his very welcome return to the club – hopefully he will soon be back in action), Rosemary Mason (after her hip replacement operation), Georgina Warren(following her serious riding accident in May) and Kath Johnson (who will be playing for England O45s in the European Championships at Old Loughtonians over the coming weekend).
