HARLESTON MAGPIES U18 GIRLS IN NATIONAL FINALS

Harleston Magpies U18 Girls battled it out with Chelmsford, Belper and Trojans in the National Finals at Birmingham University and finally finished third, but with a little bit of luck could have done even better.

In the opening game against the favourites Belper Magpies started really well and surprised Belper by controlling the early stages. In a game with few chances Belper took the lead with a penalty stroke before half time and in the second half Magpies found the going much harder as Belper took a hold of the midfield. Even so it was a tight game where Magpies performed well.

On Sunday Magpies played Chelmsford and lost 1-0, but this in no way reflected the match as Magpies completely dominated the second half but just could not score. Unfortunately some crucial decisions at each end denied Magpies a chance of a result they deserved.

In the final game Magpies beat Trojans 2-0 with Jess Bloom scoring both goals in the first half and Magpies controlled the second half and never looked like conceding a goal.

The team performed well throughout the weekend and can take great credit from finishing third in the country.
