IT’S A MINI WEEKEND AHEAD!

Mini hockey takes centre stage this weekend with the club hosting the East Club Championships in which we have teams in three of the four competitions. On Saturday the U12 Boys compete in their event while on Sunday it is the turn of the U10 Boys and U12 Girls.

The U10 Boys and U12 Boys qualified as Norfolk Champions, winning all their matches with a hatful of goals with Kieran Peters (10) and Archie Winter (5) leading the way for the U10s while the leading scorers for the U12s were Jack Hobbs and Tristan Hipper with 8 and 7 respectively. Both defences also did well with the U10s conceding one goal in their three matches and the U12s letting in just two in their five matches. The U12 Girls qualified after finishing third in the Norfolk Championship. We have no team in the U10 Girls’ event being played on Saturday.

The winners and runners-up in the U12 events progress to the national finals to be held in Nottingham on Sunday 16 May.

The East Championships are always popular and a considerable number of spectators are expected to witness the exciting hockey with play commencing at 10.25am each day. While the club is hosting the championships the organisation is largely the responsibility of the team of enthusiastic young helpers recruited by East Hockey.

The HMHC teams are as follows:

U10 Boys – Joshua Butler (GK), David Cadman, Will Donsworth, Alex Kilbourn, Sam McCluskey, Kieran Peters, Will Simpson, Archie Winter. Coach: Stuart Peters.

U12 Boys – Sol Barker, Matt Bensley, George Donsworth, Will Hall, Jonty Herschel-Shorland, Tristan Hipper, Jack Hobbs, Alex Lawrence, Jolyon Summers, Jordan Wiseman (GK). Coach: Stuart Peters.

U12 Girls – Eliza Bell, Katie Crawford, Nicole Eaves, Elle Eglington, Beatrice Flatt, Emily Hunt (GK), Kara Kilbourn, Imogen Meynell-Anderson, Verity Tomson. Manager: David Crawford. Coach: Nick McAllen.

Meanwhile in another busy weekend for the club the U11 and U13 Girls are competing on Sunday in the Dereham Minis. Good luck to all our teams.

Other news and comments in brief

§ Congratulations and best wishes to Mark Lewis and Heather on their wedding last Friday.

§ Please note your diary with the End of Season Bash (disco and hog roast & pudding) to be held at the club on Saturday 8 May (7.30pm). Tickets – Adults £10 and U13 £5 – are available from me. I have not been knocked over in the rush for tickets so far!

§ As expected Norwich Dragons won their last match to pip the Men’s 3rds to the 3NE title by one point. However, both teams are promoted and will once again battle it out for supremacy next season after both of their games this term ended in draws.

§ Congratulations to the U14 Girls who finished as runners-up in last weekend’s East Championship to round off another excellent season.

With kind regards and best wishes
