Presentation – Mike Read, Co-op Manager (left ), John and Jackie Greenbrook, Museum 4 Watton trustees, plus two other Co-op employees.

On Saturday, 25th November, Mike Read, Manager of the Co-op store in Dereham presented members of the Museum 4 Watton group with a cheque for £1376.19 towards the appeal for funds to enable them to digitise the historic Court Baron Minute books, making these unique records available to the public for research.

These books, dating from 1670 up to the 1920’s were generously given to the museum on permanent loan last year, and provide a unique and detailed history of the manor of Watton Hall.

Trustee John Greenbrook said “To have these documents easily accessible to everyone will be a great asset when the museum opens in March 2018”. We are most grateful to the customers of Dereham Co-op for voting for our cause.

He added that the group would be bringing their pop-up museum to the Watton Christmas Market on Sunday 3rd December, when members of the group will be present to chat to anyone, and they hope to meet people who want to join them or who have items relating to Watton or the surrounding Villages which they would like to donate or lend to the Museum.

The group may be contacted on [email protected] or @MuseumForWatton. Or on 01953 797060.
