Two new local choirs, formed especially for Wymondham Music Festival Fortnight’s launch event, the Community Choirs’ concert at Robert Kett Junior School on Saturday, June 20, are hard at work rehearsing for their debut.

Adventures in Harmony, directed by Katie Vaughan and a choir formed from staff at Waitrose Wymondham, directed by Rob Goodrich, are meeting weekly to prepare their repertoire for the event.

Established groups, Songbirds, D’Capo and Fine City Chorus will also perform at the concert, with all five choirs joining together for the event’s final number. This free concert, supported by John Jarrold Trust and John Lewis Music Matters, begins at 3pm on Saturday, June 20.

Richard Elliott, Chairman Wymondham Music Festival said: “We are really looking forward to our Community Choirs’ concert. It is going to be a fun and friendly event. I would like to thank all the choirs for their support, especially the singers who responded to our appeal for new choirs to be formed for this concert, along with our two choral directors, Rob Goodrich and Katie Vaughan, who are putting them through their paces.

The Festival Fortnight launch continues from 7.30pm to 10pm on June 20, with a Klezmer Ceilidh, also at Robert Kett Junior School. Klezmerized!, a four-piece klezmer band from Norwich, will play lively dance music with Middle Eastern, Gypsy and Balkan influences. Experience caller Judith Plowman will lead the dances. Tickets are  £8 (under 18 £3), available from Puff’s Toyshop, Wymondham Market Place or at www.wymfest.org.uk.

Wymondham Music Festival’s 20th Festival fortnight runs from Saturday, June 20 to Saturday, July 4, full programme details at www.wymfest.org.uk.
