New jewellery creations inspired by East Anglian coasts and landscapes

Didy Ward fell in love with East Anglia the first time she came to visit her husband’s family here. Many country walks and trips to the coast ensued and when the opportunity to move here presented itself seven years ago, she and her husband jumped at the chance.

Since then Didy has become immersed in her local community in Bungay in North Suffolk, joining the local historical society, working with the Fisher Theatre, forming an allotment association and becoming a town councillor. With so many community commitments Didy found she needed time to relax and unwind and reconnected with her creativity through beading.

With her love of the East Anglian countryside and coasts to inspire her, and a passion for creating jewellery from semi-precious stones and handmade artisan beads, Didy began to build up a collection of jewellery which she has now launched via the internet at www.didihandmadejewellery.co.uk.

Her work is organised into several collections, each with an East Anglian theme including Beach Huts, Lavender Fields and Snape Maltings.

‘Suffolk Cottage’ (from ‘Landscape’)

‘Chained Melody’ ( bracelet from ‘Seascape’)

‘Piano Keys’ (from ‘Snape Maltings’)

‘Carnelian Carnival’ (from ‘Beach Huts’)
Amethyst and Sugalite 3 strand necklace (from ‘Lavender Fields’)

For women who want to capture the heart and soul of Norfolk and Suffolk in a unique but affordable item of handmade jewellery, www.didihandmadejewellery.co.uk is a must-see site!

Didy also makes inexpensive jewellery for Four Seasons, a Bungay based boutique, to match the colours of the season’s collections. Customers are also pleased to learn that Didy will make one-off pieces on commission and will also restring much loved necklaces so that they can be enjoyed again.

Says Didy: “I love everything about making jewellery and have become a total bead addict! When I’m making my pieces I often have the gorgeous countryside, or our coasts in mind, whether that be a storm-tossed sea in winter or the bright beaches of our seaside resorts in summer. And when I am making something specifically for a customer I think of that person and do my best to create something that she will love wearing. It is this connection with other people and my surroundings that I really like – which is why I am probably on so many committees in Bungay!”
