Archive film gets an outdoor airing this summer

An appetising menu of lunchtime archive film shows will feature on the big Open Air Screen outside The Forum for a month from Tuesday 10th June.

From 12 noon till 2pm most days you will be able to feast your eyes on archive film for free for an hour and see how we lived our lives in the last century. Each day, a special programme of thematic productions made by Norwich HEART’s Digital Heritage Project, in partnership with the East Anglian Film Archive and French archive Pole Image Haute Normandie, will bring our archive alive.

Films include ‘Bon Voyage’ narrated by John Hurt and ‘Our Sporting Lives’ featuring a memorable derby match between Norwich City and Ipswich Town in the early 60s – come along to see who won! ‘Fish & Clips’ focuses on the county’s food heritage, whilst ‘The Pleasure of Leisure’ looks back at our pastimes over the decades. There will also be compilations of films showing Norwich, Cromer, Diss, Hunstanton and King’s Lynn from yesteryear, previously seen as part of Digital Heritage Project’s successful Archive Alive vintage mobile cinema tour which journeyed around the region in Summer 2013.

You can also watch hundreds of archive films online at www.archivealive.org. The Archive Alive website showcases digitised archive films from across the East of England (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire) and Upper Normandy in France, from as far back as 1896 to the 1980s.

The screenings are featured in the Lunchtime Nostalgia programme, showing films from the East Anglian Film Archive, as part of the Open Air Screen, brought to you by The Forum and sponsored by Norwich BID, Active Norfolk, Norfolk County Council and Car Shop.
