1st Place Kevin Myhill from Aylsham

Humphry Repton-inspired creations were on display at the annual charity garden show held at Woodgate Nursery in Aylsham on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June. This year’s public vote winner for the best show garden was a country cottage-themed garden, complete with a thatched cottage, designed by Kevin Myhill from Aylsham.

The event, which raised £3060 for SSAFA and The Aylsham Roman Project, attracted more than 4,500 visitors who saw a range of garden creations, which were put to a public vote.

Julia Srigley from Broadacre Gardens came second with her small garden design featuring a potting shed.

Peter Purdy, founder of Woodgate Nursery, comments, ‘Our garden show raised nearly twice as much as previous years for our charities and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. The show just gets better and bigger every year, I’m already looking forward to the 2019!’

All Proceeds will go to the armed forces charity SSAFA and Aylsham Roman Project, which last year won the Marsh Archaeology Award for Community Archaeology for its work unearthing a pair of ancient Roman kilns, believed to be the best-preserved examples of their kind in Britain.

This year’s show was bigger and better with a new craft marquee, birds of prey and musical entertainment provided by Aylsham Brass Band. There was also plenty of inspiration for the gardener, from the beautiful show gardens to local experts offering guidance and services, including lawn care specialists, willow fencing and oak framed garden buildings. It was also a great day out for all budding young gardeners who enjoyed face painting and, of course, ice cream.

Peter Purdy would especially like to thank all the exhibitors who put in such a great deal of effort over the weekend to make the 2018 Woodgate Garden Show the most enjoyable yet.
