PANCAKE RACES IN HARLESTON

PANCAKE RACES IN HARLESTON 17th Feb 2015

This year Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day as it is better known, falls in half-term. Following the success of last year’s event in Harleston another set of races is being organised, but this time with special races for Year 6 pupils from Harleston Primary School, Year 7 pupils from Archbishop Sancroft High School, and teachers and learning support assistants from both schools – with a run-off between pupils and teachers, too.

“We really hope the children will come and have a run, but there are lots of opportunities for adults, too” commented Carol Wiles, part of the organising group from Harleston’s Future. “Last year almost 60 people took part and many more stood and cheered them on. This year we would like to see more people coming along and getting involved. It’s just a bit of fun, but it does create a lovely community feel to the day.”

The short races will take place along The Thoroughfare from 10.45am until midday, with brief traffic delays whilst the races take place. There are categories for shops, business, clubs and individuals and entry is £3 per person. Medals and a Champions Cup for the overall winner will be awarded at midday on Stone Court.
