Pensthorpes Ninth Mediaeval Spectacular 2

The clocks are being turned back to an era of chivalry, heroic knights, fair maidens and all the invasions, battles and jousting that came with it, at Pensthorpe Wildlife and Gardens’ annual Mediaeval Spectacular between 24th and 26th August 2013.

Running throughout the August Bank Holiday Weekend from 10am to 5pm, visitors can enjoy a rare taste of Mediaeval life in front of their very eyes.

Living history encampments will transport visitors back in time with Minstrels, jousting, a barber surgeon – not for the faint hearted – a witch hunt and a Mediaeval market among the highlights.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet characters from the past such as the Inquisitor, the Executioner, Falconer and Nun.

There will also be live period music, archery demonstrations, top quality jousting and a hog roast for a taste of Mediaeval life.

Mark Noble, Commercial Manager at Pensthorpe Wildlife & Gardens, comments: “This is one of our flagship events and is a fantastic family day out with lots of re-enactments and hands on activities for visitors. Children will love going on the witch hunt, seeing the long boat invasion and curling up to hear Mediaeval tales with the storyteller, while young and old alike will enjoy seeing Mediaeval ships, archery and jousting. It really gives you the feel of how life really was in Mediaeval Times.”

Local historical events company Black Knight Historical will be co-hosting the event with Pensthorpe for the ninth year.

Ian Pycroft from Black Knight Historical says: “We will be bringing the beautiful nature reserve to life with hundreds of medieval characters and activities for all to enjoy. Visitors will find themselves witnessing the pageantry of the joust, an archery competition, Hereward the Wake battle action, a fishing village with coracles, beautiful birds of prey in flight, dancing with the Minstrels, heckling at the Theatre, seeing period crafts being worked, and much more. We have many visitors who return every year to see what we can come up with next, and they will still be here at the end wanting more!”

Entry to Mediaeval Spectacular is included in the regular Pensthorpe admission price.
