On Sunday 13 July, UNFOLD: Narrate // Create // Illustrate will be taking place in the enchanting space of St. Michael the Archangel church in Booton, Norfolk from 11am – 4pm, featuring the collective works of ten illustration artists whom have recently graduated from Norwich University of the Arts, a hands-on creative workshop and live acoustic music.

Hosted by Creative Arts East (the East of England regional delivery partner), in association with somewhereto_, a UK project delivered by Livity and funded by a £7m grant from the Big Lottery Fund to support its UK wide expansion to 2016. somewhereto_ is a free nationwide location finding service, which helps 16-25 year olds access free spaces in their communities.

Curated by Annabel Osborn, a young person who is using this opportunity to give local creatives a platform to showcase their work and explore a career in the arts, will be joined by fellow NUA Illustration graduate, Ellen Rockell, who was this year’s winner of the 2014 Penguin Design Award.

Annabel Osborn says: “I am really excited to be given such a beautiful venue to put on UNFOLD at Booton Church through somewhereto_. I grabbed this opportunity as a platform for myself and fellow illustration graduates to exhibit and showcase our emerging talent, and as I have a great belief that people should be able have a go at what they can see, this is why I have accompanied the exhibition with a workshop. somewhereto_ has given me a fantastic experience in managing an event for the public, to bring a fantastic day of creativity, music and illustration to the local communities.”

The illustration exhibition will be accompanied by a creative workshop or ‘taster day’ of illustration: creating a concertina book responding to character, location and object, paying attention to composition and colour, a print sale and live acoustic acts. Live acoustic music will also be provided on the day, by local singer/songwriter Ali Mackinnon who will perform her most recent work following her appearance at Glastonbury a few weeks ago.

Ryan Castle from The Churches Conservation Trust says: “The CCT is hugely excited to be developing a partnership with somewhereto_ and their incredibly talented young people, the project at the stunning church of St. Michael’s Booton will bring to life the skills of illustration, which was a vital skill to the designers of the fabulous stained glass.”

Ryan Castle adds “We are hugely honoured to also have the final pieces from a number of illustration graduates from the Norwich University of the Arts. These creative and volunteer led projects are at the core of the CCT’s vision of making our buildings at the heart of the communities in which they stand. So come along and enjoy a wonderful day in an incredible space, with some talented people!”

Delivered by Livity, a youth marketing agency, somewhereto_ is a 2012 London legacy project, initially funded by Legacy Trust UK (LTUK) between June 2010 and March 2013 with an investment of £4.35m.
