RUNNING WITH LIGHTS

A new EU Directive will see all new vehicles fitted with running lights from 2011. This is hoped to increase road safety even more.

Running Lights are special daytime lights which automatically switch on when the engine is started (some new Audi cars have them fitted already).

They increase the visibility of motor vehicles to other road users, and they have a low energy consumption compared with existing dipped beam lights

From 7th February 2011 all new cars and small delivery vans will have them fitted. Trucks and Buses will follow 18 months later in August 2012.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
WILL THIS REALLY HELP ROAD SAFETY?
Will drivers go faster because they know they will be seen?

MOTORCYCLISTS ALREADY HAVE RUNNING LIGHTS

Will they be lost in a mass of lights.

DONT FORGET
When driving behind vehicles always look well ahead, get the big picture around you, and remember, by the time the driver in front takes his foot off the Accelerator to the time he starts Braking, it takes a fifth of second for the brake lights to come on. New vehicles fitted with LED lights come on instantly.
