Scandalous Music Comes to the Fisher

Terence Blacker and Derek Hewitson of the acoustic duo Something Happened are promising an evening of songs that your mother didn’t sing to you when they play at the Fisher Theatre, Bungay on 19th September 2009.

Their Evening of Political Incorrectness will be delving into the worlds of jazz, bluegrass, folk, country and pop for songs which, in one or another, have caused trouble down the years.

“A few months ago, we were looking for music to play at our pub and theatre gigs, and we kept on finding good stuff which would be difficult to perform today – they had become politically incorrect,” explains Terence Blacker. “Then we started noticing songs that had caused a scandal when they were first released but which are just fine now.” From there, the idea of a light-hearted celebration of unrespectable music was born.

Something Happened will be singing songs made infamous by, among others, Tom Lehrer, Noel Coward, Hoagy Carmichael, Louis Jordan, Randy Newman and Carole King as well as those by composers they say are “shamefully neglected”.
