Northern Soul Live

Fri 1 Sept, 7.30pm

Electrifying ten-piece live band The Signatures, with special guest vocalists from the Northern Soul scene, Stefan Taylor and Lorraine Silver.

Stefan Taylor sings classic Northern Soul tracks such as ‘Do I Love You’, ‘Higher & Higher’, ‘Time’, ‘The Night’, and ‘I Surrender’.  

Lorraine Silver recorded ‘Lost Summer Love’ when she was 13 years old in 1965, which went on to become an iconic track at the legendary Wigan Casino in the 1970s. 

You can also hear many other well-known Northern Soul classics including ‘Landslide’, ‘I’m Gonna Run Away From You’, ‘I’ll Keep Holding On’ and the Burt Bacharach/Hal David penned ‘Long After Tonight Is All Over’.

Orchestra Baobab

Beginning in the heart of Dakar’s Medina in the 1960s, Orchestra Baobab encompass a unique blend of Afro-Latin styles, international pop and West African griot music, with an after-dark West African nightclub ambience of lilting, mellifluous rhythms.

Wishbone Ash

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic album Live Dates. This is a rare opportunity to hear the legendary Wishbone Ash performing their biggest-selling album in its entirety, along with songs from many of their other, much-loved albums. Hear classics such as ‘The King Will Come’, ‘Throw Down TheSword’, ‘Warrior’ & ‘Blowin’ Free’ sounding as fresh as ever, delivered with a twin-guitar sound that has become a part of rock history.

T.Rextasy

The band is now accepted as the world’s only official live tribute band dedicated to Marc Bolan & T.Rex, and the only band endorsed and approved by Marc Bolan’s family, estate, original ex-members of T.Rex, and Bolan’s catalogue management.

Cats In Space

Marti Pellow

Pellow Talk, The Lost Chapter: an intimate evening of stories and songs. A chance to learn all about Marti, not just as a singer and songwriter with Wet Wet Wet, but also his life story. The Lost Chapter is a reimagined show that connects the audience with the songwriter and the songs that make the man. 

Ashley Wass

Tue 19 Sept, 7.30pm

Ashley Wass is the only British pianist to have won the London International Piano Competition and is a former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. He first came to perform in Bury St Edmunds shortly after his success at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2000, and it is a pleasure to welcome him back with a programme that includes a work by Ukrainian composer Alexey Shor.

Tina Live – The Tina Turner Experience

Full of hits including ‘Private Dancer’, ‘Nutbush City Limits’, ‘Proud Mary’, ‘River Deep Mountain High’ and ‘Let’s Stay Together’ to name but a few. Julie Nevada performs as Tina Turner, her powerful vocals, live band, backing singers and fabulous dancers, make this ‘Simply the Best’ Tina Turner Tribute Show!

100 Years of Big Bands

Sun 24 Sept, 5pm

The Len Phillips Swing Orchestra make their debut at the Apex with their hit Sky Arts programme. Along with Matt Ford and Nicola Emmanuelle, they will celebrate a century of swing, tracing the development of big bands from Louis Armstrong’s New Orleans and the Paul Whiteman Orchestra through the golden age of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller to the contemporary tracks of Michael Bublé and Harry Connick Jr. Paying homage to the great big band singers Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr and Cab Calloway along the way with their 17-piece swing orchestra.

The Three Degrees

The Three Degrees had a string of hits in the 70s – ‘Dirty Ol’ Man’, ‘Take Good Care of Yourself’ and their biggest hit, ‘When Will I See You Again’.

More than five decades on, the threesome has retained their precise vocal qualities and Valerie Holiday, Tabitha King and Freddi Pool, (The Three Degrees) can still make the claim as being the longest-running female vocal group in history!

Ruby Turner

Ruby is one of the main singers in Jools Holland’s R&B Orchestra. Her hits include ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ & ‘If You’re Ready (Come Go With Me)’.

Ralph McTell

Ralph McTell is the composer of the Ivor Novello award winning, international hit song and buskers’ favourite ‘Streets of London’. The performance will feature plenty of songs from his 50+ year career in addition to showcasing some of his most recent work.  A singer songwriter of international acclaim who has played across the world, McTell brings his exquisite songwriting to life with virtuoso guitar picking and evocative stories.  His spellbinding songs and wry humourous anecdotes take the audience from his busker days in Paris, to concert halls in Australia and America and through the Streets of London.

Eddi Reader

Celebrating over 40 years as a live performer, Eddi Reader has 10 critically acclaimed solo albums, 3 BRIT awards, a No.1 single and an MBE, and continues to delight audiences worldwide.

Though first brought into the limelight as front woman for Fairground Attraction, who’s single ‘Perfect’ and album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts, Eddi began her career in the folk clubs of Glasgow before providing backing vocal for Eurythmics and Gang of Four.
