South Norfolk Olympic Festival 2012
Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th July 2012

This summer the Sportspark at the University of East Anglia will host the largest primary Olympic Festival in the county. 37 Primary Schools and over 1600 primary school pupils aged 5 – 8 from across South Norfolk will engage in an Olympic Festival with opening and closing ceremonies and a day full of Olympic themed sporting activities ranging from ball sports to rhythmic gymnastics.

The build-up to the festival started in January with three cultural competitions in design, poetry and song. The winning cultural pupils have their certificate being presented to each and every pupil and the song played during the opening and closing ceremony. The two days will also be supported by over 300 sports leaders from eight high schools across South Norfolk.

Each participating school has been asked to embrace an Olympic country of their choice designing flags, banners and t shirts for what should be a visual spectacular for the one lap parade around the UEA track led by an official Olympic torch bearer and official 2012 torch! The closing ceremony will see all 800 pupils attempting to perform the Olympic Mascot Dance.

Vanessa Boon, South Norfolk School Games Organiser says;

“In this exciting year of sport we wanted to offer as many young Olympians in South Norfolk the opportunity to be part of a spectacular event at one of the largest athletics venues in the County. The two days will see both sport and culture bought together and we hope to see 1600 pupils leaving with certificates, medals and a happy lasting memory of 2012”.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 10am and the closing ceremony for 2pm, spectators are more than welcome in the designated seating in the outdoor spectators stand. Entry for spectators is free.
