Marmen Quartet was founded in 2012 at the Royal College of Music, London. Since its formation, the Quartet has enjoyed masterclasses with Eberhard Feltz and Rainer Schmidt, as well as regular coaching sessions with Simon Rowland-Jones and the late Peter Cropper. As the winners of Music in the Round’s professional development scheme – ‘Bridge’ – they will receive three years of mentoring, financial support, guidance in every aspect of life as a string quartet and regular performance opportunities.

Recent projects have included collaborations with Ensemble 360 and the Sacconi Quartet, a two week residency with Aldeburgh Music, recitals at festivals across the UK as well as performing live on BBC Radio 3 In Tune. In July 2015 they formed the string section of the opera orchestra in Vattnäs Konsertlada, Sweden, premiering Mats Larsson Gothe’s Silverfågeln, with artists including Anna Larsson, which was aired on Radio Sweden

This concert was unavoidably postponed from last October’s Festival.

In 2014 Ji’s debut CD Piano Reflections was released by Classic FM and immediately went on to become No.1 in the classical charts.  Last year it was nominated as the Classical Album of the Year in the prestigious 2015 Chinese Music Awards.

Born in 1990, Ji Liu studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Música Reina Sofía and with Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music. Recently Ji has appeared as soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall and Henley Festival, and with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko at the Royal Albert Hall, and in China.   He gave a series of performances of Bach’s Goldberg Variations at Wigmore Hall and the Bristol Proms, and took part in the Nottingham International Piano Series and Bath Festival.   In January Classic FM released Ji’s second CD – Encore, and in 2016 he releases a third album.
