Suffolk Coastal dental services get £1m boost

People in the Suffolk Coastal area can easily get an NHS dentist, thanks to a £1 million boost in dental services this year by NHS Suffolk.

To find out more you just need to call PALS, the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 389 6819.

During 2009 two new dental practices have opened in the Suffolk Coastal area – in Leiston and Rendlesham – and a third will be opening in Kesgrave in early 2010. This is in direct response to research pointing to a demand for new dental services in the area. Other findings also suggest that people do not visit the dentist regularly as they are worried about treatment and how much it will cost.

Clare Banyard, head of primary care at NHS Suffolk said: “Our message is loud and clear – you can get an NHS dentist in Suffolk. For those not exempt from payment, treatment is divided into three bands, with set prices, starting from £16.50. We’re trying to make it easier for people to have regular check-ups at local practices. By doing so, problems can be detected at an early stage.”

There are exemptions to costs – for example, treatment is free if you’re under 18, and more information is available at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk or telephone 0845 8501166.
