A brilliant event has been organised to provide support and information to dedicated carers in Norfolk.

The Carers’ Forum, which is hosted by Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, will be held 2pm to 7pm on 21 November 2011 at Kings Centre in Great Yarmouth.

The event is for all carers, but particularly those who care for people with mental health issues.

Guest speakers, including consultant psychiatrist, will provide insightful talks for carers on subjects as ‘how to communicate with sufferers of psyhcosis’, ‘why mental health conditions happen and what helps’ and ‘spirituality’.

Howard Tidman, Charge Nurse, said: “The aim of this event is to address the needs of carers, the people who support our service users. We have found that carers often feel that they do not receive enough information so we are taking a proactive approach to getting engaged with our carers and supporting them through their loved one’s care.

Carers will have the opportunity to explore a marketplace with information about Trust services including the pharmacy team, who will be able to discuss medication queries, as well as partner agencies such as Mind.

“I’m anticipating a successful event, which will help carers who often do a difficult job without any recognition,” Howard added. “The event will be informative, will be fun and will help reduce the stigma around mental health problems. I hope that everyone will find it useful and that many questions will be answered.”

There will also be a room offering free holistic therapies including mindfulness taster sessions, Indian head massage, reiki and reflexology.
