EARSHAM-HALL

On Monday 29 April 2013 there was a mixture of excitement and nerves at EARSHAM HALL as a 40ft Container weighing 40 tonnes, was lifted by a 220 tonne crane over the 300 year old brick buildings at the Hall.  The weather was fine, with limited wind and work started early to prepare for the lift.

The Tearoom was also open early and full of hungry crane operators, truck drivers, general public and representatives from Treco and Anglian Green Deal during the intervals, but was “evacuated” when the lift happened – just in case!

This was the critical stage in the installation of a new Biomass Heating System to the Hall, which has been planned for months and culminated in the delivery and placement of the container holding the entire system and eventually the wood pellet fuel.

This new green system will save around 87.5 tonnes of CO2 per year and promotes the principle of healthy forest management by consuming previously unused felling residue and creating  demand for re-planting of new forest stocks.  A win all round!

A bonus on the day was Earsham Hall’s owner, Rupert Derham’s installation of his son Ollie’s new saved up for (Go-Pro) camera – at the top of the 200 ft arm of the crane to capture every part of the lift from a bird’s eye view – quite literally!!  “Ollie has been saving pocket money for a while now to buy a longed for Camera and it happened to be delivered two days before the Biomass Installation.  Unfortunately for Ollie and his sister Sophie it was a school day so they were not here to witness it first hand – but I managed to attach it to the top of the crane arm and consequently this modern little camera caught the moment and now can be shared with everyone!!”

The 15 minute clip can be seen below:

……a must for people who enjoy cranes, vehicles, lifting and seeing what it means to lift big objects over old buildings – but maybe not for those suffering from vertigo!!
