Elle editor Jean-Dominique Bauby suffered a paralysing stroke at the age of 43. Using his left eye to blink out a memoir, Bauby eloquently described his interior world, from the torment of being trapped inside his body, to imagined stories from lands he’d visited only in his mind.
Ronald Harwood’s script and artist Julian Schnabel’s direction both won Oscar nominations for this superb, unsentimental film.
