A series of works and a fresh look at the woodland that surround us, interspersed with portraiture and landscape.

The Upstairs Gallery was built over a period of 12 years, finally opening in 2007 with experience in publicity and marketing for artists. Our current mailing list incorporates 4,000 clients.

The gallery does not discriminate for artists willing to show works, but reserves the right to refuse work not suitable for the gallery.

Many galleries will only provide commission space for artists, and very often display space will remain the same due to the programme of repeat artists. In the current clime, affordable and flexible artspace is a necessity to the artists and craftsmakers.

Working alongside schools, students, colleges, hobbyists, amateur and professional artists and craftsmakers, The Upstairs Gallery has fast become one of the largest commission free arts galleries in the UK, offering rental art-space to all at nominal fees.

The gallery has won 10 awards to date, including Best Small Tourism Attraction 2008/2009 and finalist 2010. Pride in the community, and Regeneration and Development awards.

In 2012, the gallery has gained a bronze award for green energy, alongside sponsorship assistance from Suffolk County Council to replace lighting.

The Upstairs Gallery also provides voluntary teams to help with the operational requirements of the gallery, and support is always needed. To date, many of our volunteers are supported in re-employment opportunities, with references inclusive of skills provided.

None of our staff and team members are paid.
