WESTLETON WILD FLOWER FESTIVAL
AND VILLAGE LIFE EXHIBITION 2011

Friday July 29th to Monday August 1st 2011
10 am to 6pm each day (5 pm Monday)

Westleton Village and its Church work together every year to hold its long running and celebrated Wildflower Festival in St Peters Church Westleton combined with the Village Life Exhibition in Westleton Village Hall. This year the events will be held from Friday July 29th to Monday August 1st, open from 10 am to 6 pm on Friday to Sunday and 10 am to 5pm on Monday.

Admission is free but donations will be most welcome.

The wildflower festival features displays of local wildflowers depicting a range of subjects under a new theme chosen each year. Great care is taken with the gathering of these wild flowers, many are actually grown in village gardens, or are picked from the roadside before the local County Council cuts the verges. No threatened species are used.

This year’s exhibition in the Village Hall features nearly twenty local groups and bodies that all interact with and operate around the village. These include, the Art Group, the Quilters Group, Village archives, Family History Society, the RSPB, Westleton Gun Club, the Whitefriars Bowmen, the Parish Nurses etc., etc.. In addition Westleton Gardeners have been working all year to be able to offer a very wide range of garden plants for sale at their display stand in the Village Hall, and all at very reasonable prices.

There will also be demonstrators showing their skills each day. On Friday Lorna Turner will be showing Yarn Crafts, including spinning and the use of an embellisher, whilst the weaving demonstrators on Saturday will be Sue Foster and Joyce Barnes. On Sunday, Sharon McMullin will be demonstrating her skills with stained and decorative glass, both mouth blown and machine made and Chrissie Davies will be showing her unusual skills of producing jewellery from recycled materials. On Monday the internationally known potter Glynn Hugo will be demonstrating the potter’s art. All the demonstrators will have a range of their work on show and some of it will be for sale.

Refreshments will be on sale each day. Afternoon tea will be available in the Vicarage garden on Sunday. Come and meet Westleton, and see this unique flower festival and village exhibition for yourself! Many return every year.

Adam Rowlands of the RSPB will give a presentation on ‘Travels to Japan in search of Harriers’ in Westleton Church at 7.30 pm on Saturday July 30th. There will be no admission charge for this event, and complimentary refreshments will be served, but donations will be most welcome, and will be shared by the Church and the Village Hall.
