Westleton-annual-Wild-Flower-and-Village-Life-Exhibition-2013

From Friday July 26th to Monday July 29th. 10 am to 6 pm each day (5pm Monday).

The wildflower festival features displays of local wildflowers depicting a range of subjects under a new theme chosen each year. This year’s theme is Flowers in Britten’ to celebrate the centenary of the composer Benjamin Britten, and how better to do that than with the wildflowers from this coastal Sandlings area he loved so much? Great care is taken with the gathering of these wild flowers, many are actually grown in village gardens, or are picked from the roadside before the local County Council cuts the verges.

No threatened species are used in the displays.

This year’s exhibition in the Village Hall features nearly twenty local groups and bodies that all interact with and operate around the village. These include, the Quilters Group, Westleton Barrel Fair, Village archives, Family History Group, Westleton Common Friends, Indoor Bowls, and other bodies operating locally.

In addition Westleton Gardeners have been working all year to be able to offer a very wide range of garden plants for sale at their display stand in the Village Hall, and all at very reasonable prices.

There will also be demonstrators showing their skills each day. On Friday Lorna Turner will be showing Yarn Crafts, including spinning, whilst on Saturday Antony Clough will be showing his woodworking skills in Sign Writing. On Sunday, Sharon McMullin will be demonstrating her skills with stained and decorative glass, both mouth blown and machine made and Chrissie Davies will be showing her unusual ability to produce jewellery from recycled materials as well as weaving willow for the garden. On Monday Jane Jennifer will be demonstrating her basket making skills. All the demonstrators will have a range of their work on show and some of it will be for sale.

Refreshments will be on sale each day. Afternoon tea will be available in the Vicarage garden on Sunday.

Come to Westleton and see the attractions of this Suffolk village for yourself. Admission is free, but all donations are must welcome and will be shared equally by the Church and the Village Hall
