WESTLETON WILD FLOWER FESTIVAL 2014

WESTLETON WILD FLOWER FESTIVAL 2014

‘ Poets of The  Great  War’

IN ST PETER’S CHURCH

PLUS ‘VILLAGE LIFE’  EXHIBITION  IN THE VILLAGE HALL

From Friday July 25th to Monday July 28th.

10 am to 6 pm each day (5pm Monday).

This year’s wonderful wild flower festival in Westleton Church takes as its theme Poets of  The Great War. Many of those young writers were indeed ‘Tall Poppies’ who were cut down in their prime by the  horrors of   highly  mechanised killing — poets who enjoyed and wrote of Nature’s fragile beauty.  It is considered most appropriate that in this one hundredth year since their ordeal commenced that it should be marked with wild flowers, gathered from the gardens and roadside verges around Westleton.

Great care is taken with the gathering of these wild flowers, and no threatened species are used in the displays.

This year’s exhibition in the Village Hall features many local groups and bodies that all operate in and around the village. These include the  Quilters Group, Westleton Barrel Fair, Village archives, Family History Group, Westleton  Common, Indoor Bowls, and other bodies that are active locally.

In addition Westleton Gardeners have been working all year to be able to offer a very wide range of garden plants for sale at their display stand in the Village Hall, and all at very reasonable prices.  This is always a busy area in the Hall.

There will also be demonstrators showing their skills each day. On Friday Lorna Turner will be showing Yarn Crafts, including spinning,  and on Saturday the expert Great Glemham group,  Ragtime Ruggers, will be displaying the technique and skills involved in making a range of rugs made from rags.

On Sunday, Sharon McMullin will be  demonstrating her artistry with stained and decorative glass, both mouth blown and machine made and Chrissie  Davies will be showing her unusual ability to produce sculpture from recycled glass. On Monday Antony Clough will be  demonstrating his woodworking skills in Sign Writing.  All the demonstrators will have a range of their work on show and some of it will be for sale.

Wonderful home made refreshments will be on sale throughout each day  in the Village Hall.  GRAND DRAW ALSO!

Entrance is free, but any donations will be shared equally between the Church and The Village Hall
