A tale of perverse love, denial, longing and obsession.

Common Ground was set up in 2007 by Pat Whymark, Lynn Whitehead and Julian Harries, two professional actors who live in Woodbridge, Suffolk. They wanted to give young, local actors the chance to put on original shows, work with professional actors and experience touring theatre. Their first show, Gallows Song, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, did just that, playing in Ipswich, Woodbridge, Halesworth and London, with professional actors, musicians and production team. The company is going from strength to strength and aims to put on at least two shows a year.

The Bell
Whilst travelling in Germany, compiling a walking guide, Karl Klein goes missing. In a letter, he had told his brother Rolph that he was in love. Rolph goes looking for him, and his search leads to a grand old house at the foot of the Achen Pass, the last house before the long trek into the mountains. As Rolph learns more and more about the troubled inhabitants of Thalberg House and their honoured yet feared patriarch, in whose memory the town’s church bell was founded, his misgivings for Karl grow ever darker.

Following their highly successful tours of The Fisherman & The Turtle in 2009 and Gallows Song in 2008, Common Ground now present The Bell a new play by Pat Whymark. Blending narrative and surrealism, physical theatre and live music, it is part murder mystery and part psychological drama.

Pig Earth

Tickets £8

Pig Earth is an original alternative contemporary Americana/Folk band formed around the songwriting of Neil Keveren and Emma Steele. The vivacious songs often have a strong narrative in the tradition of folk but the band’s approach is far from traditional. Pig Earth knock out positive uplifting stompers and rolling, rambling tales of love, travel, roots and home. These are songs that all can relate to and revel in.

Neil Keveren – vocals, acoustic guitar
Emma Steele – vocals, melodeon, piano
Craig Stratton – violin, banjo, mandolin, vocals
Lucy Heath – double bass
Dave Rowlands – drums, cajon, percussion
