Rex went on to form the hugely successful Rex Studios in Norfolk, producing work for theme parks around the world. Rex now works on commissions of famous portraiture and is showing at The Upstairs Gallery throughout July. As well as Rex, we have 15 rooms of artists’ work, which include ceramics, sculpture, textiles and jewellery.
‘Running Horses’
August 1st – 31st 2011
Artist Show: Bill Titcombe
Bill Titcombe has been illustrating children’s comics since the late 1950’s, and over the years he has worked on more than 60 different strips. Now Bill is working on a series of his own works focusing on horses, and has just embarked on a new series that has proved greatly popular. These new paintings have seen his work move away from convention, now working white onto blue, exhibiting a new, vibrant way of displaying fluidity and movement within his subject. Bill’s work is on display at The Upstairs Gallery throughout August.
September 2nd – 30th 2011
Artists Show: Mark Ward
Painting is Mark Ward’s way of dreaming himself elsewhere. In his Suffolk studio he creates dramas of tropical lands that take place on home-made stages, representing the places he has been or even journeys he has yet to travel. All the life of the forest, swamp and savannah is played out by creatures made of paper, plastic and string, as consciously posed and lit as any actor. These are worlds created thousands of miles from the jungle, but a million miles from the wild! Mark’s work is on display throughout September at The Upstairs Gallery.
