World Art Dinner
for Norwich & Norfolk Food Festival

The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich, will be celebrating the Norfolk and Norwich Festival 2007 with a World Art Dinner on Wednesday 17 October. The Centre will be offering people a special opportunity to enjoy the Robert and Lisa Sainsbury Collection of world and modern European art, and dine in unique surroundings. The ticket price includes a donation to the Big C charity.

“I am delighted that we are taking part in this year’s Food Festival. It gives us chance to offer people something different and showcase the high quality of catering here. The food we offer to gallery visitors when they come to exhibitions (in the Gallery Café and Garden Restaurant) is an important part of their experience. We also offer a very high standard of catering for private bookings such as conferences, business events and weddings.”
– David Smith, Sainsbury Centre Catering Manager.

The World Art Dinner will offer local people a rare chance to dine at the Sainsbury Centre, a superb art museum and world-class Norman Foster building. They will also have the opportunity to explore the Centre’s main collection which includes modern European art by artists such as Francis Bacon and Pablo Picasso, as well as objects from across the globe spanning 5,000 years of human creativity.

On arrival people will be able to enjoy welcome drinks and canapés. At 8pm a 3-course dinner using Norfolk produce will be served in the Garden Restaurant – a wonderful chance to sample the excellent food on offer at the Centre and relax to ambient jazz by the Dave Pullin Duo.

Head Chef, Stephen Wright, has an impressive career history including working at the Grosvenor House on Park Lane and at The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn in Holbourn (London) prior to taking his post at the Sainsbury Centre. He is passionate about the use of local produce – “The secret of good food is good ingredients. I am pleased that the Food Festival is encouraging the use of Norfolk produce – supporting local businesses, reducing food miles and ultimately encouraging the use of truly fresh ingredients”. The menu on the 17 October will include Norfolk goats cheese, Barnards bacon and local rhubarb.

Each ticket sold includes a donation to the Big C charity. The Big C has a special connection with the University of East Anglia, devoting a large portion of the £11m it has raised since it’s foundation in 1980, to research at the UEA and local hospitals.
