I moved to Worlingham in 2002 and found a few changes after Essex – yes I’m an Essex Girl!

I found the accent strange here like “Are yew gooing to put your coot on as it is cold?” Or “I’m gooing into Beccle” with no ‘s’ on the end of Beccles.

Quite strange really when you think I only came down the A12 into the next County but as they say in England the accent changes every 15 miles or so.

To begin with I found the “natives” a bit reserved but I think once you have won their confidence it is a different matter.

I have certainly joined things and made friends. However I find Worlingham is not really a village as such – not how I perceive villages to be anyway. We now do not even have a village pub! This is a pity as generally speaking pubs are the heart of the village – and as you say many a good “yarn” can be heard in them.

We do however have a very fine pharmacy which replaced the Colville Arms Motel on the Lowestoft Road. I do think lots more events could be organised here as happens in other villages.

Maybe a lot of the people commute to Norwich or whatever and it has thus become a dormitory town rather than a village?

The Church is very pretty and we have an excellent lady vicar – very modern and with it!

The Worlingham Drama Group is also extremely good. If you don’t have transport then getting to places after the buses stop running can be a bit of a nightmare making say trips to the theatre at Lowestoft out of the question apart say from Matinees.

And now …well I am moving to Pakefield (hopefully early in August) and am going to try my luck further along the coast. I have to say I have always wanted to “live beside the seaside” and am looking forward to the move. Five minutes walk or so to the beach can’t be bad and within easy reach of its big brother Lowestoft, with Gulliver towering above it!

I have to say I have never quite got the hang of the cold winds that you seem to have all the time, and I suppose I am going to find this even more so, being more easterly and coastal but we shall see.
