Autism Anglia is hosting a regional event at Sportspark next week. The Autism Sharing Day is for families, carers, educators, employers and others supporting or working with children, young people and adults who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The event is a day for accessing, sharing and discovering information and resources.

An exhibition is taking place on Wednesday 21 September 2011 in the John Jarrold Suite and Town Close Room, some of the conference facilities at Sportspark at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. There will be stands from providers and suppliers of services and resources. The exhibition is open to the public and entrance is free.

There will also be several pre-bookable seminars and workshops starting from £4.50. Spaces are still available on the following:

09:30 – 11:00: Setting up and supporting youth groups for young people with ASD and the launch of a new DVD ‘ASD –Our View’ created by young people with autism.

09:45 – 10:45: Action 4 Autism in India – Daniel Cox, ex-leader of Norfolk County Council, and his wife Katie who is an Occupational Therapist in Norfolk, will talk about their recent experiences in India with Action 4 Autism.

09:45 – 10:45: Play AT I.T. Project – The Norfolk Play AT I.T. project was part of Norfolk County Council’s Children’s Services approach to ensure early years settings are providing inclusive opportunities to all children.

13:00 – 14:00: Talking About Puberty, Sex & Relationships – Looking at the issues for those with high functioning autism / Asperger syndrome with regard to relationship and sexual understanding.

13:30-14:30: Sharing the News – Right from the start – Sharing the news of a child’s additional needs in a positive, clear and empathetic manner with ongoing support and information.

13:30 – 14:30: Project SEARCH – Transition from Education to Employment – Project SEARCH is an employment – focussed education programme, designed to give students with learning difficulties or ASD the opportunity to learn more about the world of work, develop employability skills and to experience real life work placements.
