Big Cuppa month

April is Big Cuppa month

It’s the time to raise your Cuppa and help Norfolk and Waveney’s cancer charity Big C.

This year as part of its 35th anniversary events, Big C is asking people to host a Cuppa party with a difference. We know Norfolk is flat, but the Big C challenge is on for you to find the quirkiest or highest place in the county for your Cuppa venue. You could plan one at the end of a pier, on the beach, in a woodland or forest, like a Teddy bear’s picnic, or gather your friends together for a high tea?

Workers on building sites or based on platforms in the North Sea, or in factories and offices where could you hold one?

You could even hold a Cuppa party with something other than tea in the mug!

Last year Big C raised £16,000 from Cuppa’s and is hoping to double that total and reach £35,000 this year. Cuppas are a fun way of helping Big C and making a big difference to cancer sufferers and their families in our region and raise an average £600.

First to put the kettle on and officially launch April as the Cuppa month was Norwich’s Lord Mayor Cllr Brenda Arthur who held a party for a young cancer sufferer Ruth Carpenter in the Lord Mayor’s Parlour overlooking Norwich market place.

Cheers for the Big C cuppa. where will you hold yours

Big C would like to hear your stories and see your pictures from your Cuppa parties around the region. It is a great excuse to get your friends, family, colleagues and local community together to enjoy a nice cup of tea or whatever your tipple. Send your images and stories to [email protected] and we’ll share them through our social media.

To join in the 35th anniversary fun visit www.big-c.co.uk/cuppa and download a fundraising pack that includes invitations, stickers, posters and leaflets or call 01603 619900 for balloons and any other details. Don’t forget you can also hold a Cuppa party at any time of the year too!

Dr Chris Bushby, Chief Executive Officer for Big C, said: “Cuppa’s are a vital part of our fund-raising and a great way for people to join together in a simple and fun activity. We all know families whose lives have been affected by cancer, let’s raise a Big C Cuppa to help them during our 35th anniversary year.”

Big Cuppa month notes

Big C is Norfolk and Waveney’s Cancer charity. It was co-founded 35 years ago by cancer patient David Moar who found the trauma of the journey to London for his chemotherapy worse than the treatment itself and vowed if he lived that he would ensure cancer patients could be treated here on their doorstep.

In 35 years not only has the charity raised about £25million, but also helped fund three support and information centres providing friendly places for cancer patients and their families to find a cuppa and a listening ear and welfare advice. It has assisted in buying diagnostic and surgical equipment to ensure quicker and more effective treatment. Big C continues to make grants to fund world-class research taking place at the Internationally renowned Norwich Research Park and works with patients of all ages with most forms of cancer.
