BIG RESEARCH DAY HANDS OUT HOT TIPS

Tips on how to run a successful mental health research project will be revealed during a special ‘Big Research Day’ at the UEA Sportspark on November 13 2009.

“Speakers will be focussing on how good ideas for research projects can be successfully brought to fruition,” said Brenda Jones, research manager at Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. “We will be paying special attention to the process of grant funding, which can potentially be quite daunting.”

The event, entitled ‘From Inspiration to Project’, has been jointly organised by the Trust’s research and development department and by the Mental Health Research Network, together with the UEA and the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust.

Speakers include Dr Hadrian Ball, medical director for Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust; Professor Richard Gray, professor of research related to nursing, and deputy associate dean for research at the UEA; Dr Bonnie Teague, research grants facilitator for Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust; Dr Kneale Metcalf, medicine for the elderly consultant with Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust; and Jeannette Harding, a service user consultant with the Cambridge and Peterborough Foundation Trust.

People with research ideas will have an opportunity to present them to a ‘Dragons’ Den’ comprising a friendly group of experts.

The event takes place in the John Jarrold Room at the UEA Sportspark from 9.45am-3.30pm on Friday, November 13 2009
