Booking is now open for Suffolk Artlink’s new year-long art courses for adults with learning disabilities, taking place in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and Lowestoft.
Supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, Brave Art is an exciting new programme of year-long art courses, during which students will learn new creative, life and leadership skills.
Hayley Field, Suffolk Artlink Co-Director, explains: “We are really excited to be launching our new creative courses for adults with learning disabilities in Suffolk. This term, our students will have the chance to explore art forms including dance, drama, printmaking, painting and drawing and word art.”
“As well as developing our students’ artistic skills, taking part in Brave Art will increase overall wellbeing by supporting students to develop life and leadership skills, learn to advocate for themselves and create new friendships and community connections.”
Zena, a student on a previous Suffolk Artlink course, said: “I really love coming here – meeting my friends, making art and seeing you all.”
Students will be supported by professional artists and a learning support team to develop their own portfolio of work through exploring art forms including painting, illustration, film-making, theatre, dance and fashion.
Each term students will explore different themes, creating their own artwork and keeping a personal journal of their learning. At the end of each year, students will work together to plan a public event to celebrate the work they have made.
