This year will be the 27th Marathon and Half Marathon and it is hoped to raise lots of money for the NSPCC. Last year £8,400 was handed over to Radio Broadland Kids. One new venture will be chip timing for all the runners. The days of stopwatches, clipboards and pencilled in times and positions are now gone. With the magic of technology the runners are issued with a chip which correlates to their number, this automatically registers their number and time when they run over the mats at the start and finish of the race. This information is instantly transferred to computer and hey presto – the results!

For those of you hoping to catch a glimpse of the runners along the route the Marathon leaves Maltings Meadow at 10.30 and the Half Marathon at 12.30. Runners go the “wrong” way up Bridge Street, turn left along Beccles Road, through Shipmeadow and Barsham, left into Puddingmoor at Beccles, left into Northgate, over the Dam, left to Geldeston, left to Ellingham where they finish the last section along the footpath which runs parallel to the A143. The Half runners then finish on the field and those running the Marathon have to go round all over again.

The Fun Run will start at 10.40 and will take place around the inside of the field, making it a safe run for all ages. All finishers will receive a memento and category winners will receive a medal. Unfortunately as this is a playing field no dogs are allowed. But hopefully lots of you, of all ages, will turn up and take part.
