Bungay Sports AssociationWay back in the last century, when Millennium projects were all the rage, the Bungay & District Sports Association was born, in the old Watch House pub, in December 1999.

The Maltings Meadow had no changing rooms, no showers, no tennis courts and only a small grassed car park but vitally, there were loads of kids who just wanted to play sport.

Nine years and £1,000,000 later, the Maltings Meadow sports ground is something to be proud of. It is privately owned, but non-profit making; marvellous to have, but expensive to run; built for sport, but available for everyone to use.

Bungay Town Football Club run football teams for all ages including Under 6’s coaching sessions, every Saturday morning, to a veteran’s team, playing every third Sunday in a local league. Girl’s football and Ladies teams reflect the fact that football is the preferred activity of girls these days.

Bungay Cricket Club is also active in youth sport, Kwik cricket for Under 10’s and older age teams playing ‘proper’ cricket in a league structure. Their Saturday and Sunday men’s teams are always looking for new players, talented with either bat or ball.

Bungay Tennis Club has struggled for a few years, playing at the High School, through lack of decent courts to use. The new floodlit, astro-turf courts at the Maltings Meadow will drive the club forward to include Junior tennis for the first time in many years and build on this season’s promotion campaign.

But the Maltings Meadow is not just about sport, it has a community building that can be used for most family functions. Birthday parties or anniversaries, weddings or wakes can all be catered for in the versatile, child friendly function room. The large car park, the wonderful south facing picture windows and the acres of space for children to play or have photographs taken make it ideal for anyone’s special event.

The large bar area is open to everyone, we have a public licence with no membership restrictions. It is open every evening during the week except Mondays and all day Saturday and Sunday with Sky Sports showing live sporting events from across the world.

If you are keen on sport; come in.
If you just like watching sport; come in.
If you want to arrange a party; come in.
If you simply like a drink in friendly surroundings then come in and give us a look.
