Counselling service handed £3,650 boost

More people in north east Suffolk will now be able to access specialist help to come to terms with bereavement or the diagnosis of a life-limiting illnesses after the Pear Tree Fund was awarded a £3,650 grant by Norfolk Community Foundation.

The money, from Norfolk Community Foundation’s ‘villages community fund’ has been awarded to the charity to fund counselling for people who live in Holton, Westhall and Sotherton. The service will be available to patients who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, their families and carers, as well as those who have been bereaved.

Dr Kevin MacLusky, Pear Tree Fund chairman, said: “We are very grateful to the Norfolk Community Foundation for their support for this vital service.

“We know that when people experience ill health, or the loss of a loved one, it impacts not only the individual but everyone who is close to them. This service will help individuals, couples and families to manage the feelings associated with coping with illness or bereavement, such as worry, sadness, uncertainty and fear.”

Jenny Bevan, head of programmes with Norfolk Community Foundation, said: “Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much needed project that will make a real difference in the community. We wish them every success with their work.”
