Dance Camp East is a camping holiday with a difference. We will be up to 250 people of all ages, camping in circles of about 30, each around a central hearth-fire. The easy community of circle life is a key element of the Camp. By cooking together and enjoying the practicalities of communal living, we magically turn daily chores into fun, creative social occasions, to the sound of live music, singing and much laughter. Circles usually sit together for a few minutes after dinner each evening to hear about each other’s day, and celebrate the cooks!

Dance Camp East celebrated its 20th birthday in 2012. We’ve enjoyed an incredible two decades of gathering on green fields, under big skies, and building a vibrant creative community in East Anglia. And the future looks even brighter and more exciting – we hope you’ll want to share the embers, woodsmoke, stars and open skies. Put on your dancing shoes, grab a ukulele and come join us.

We focus on the magic that happens when ordinary people share their extraordinary skills, talents and ideas. We have a participative ethos, and emphasise shared responsibility for creating the Camp. Everyone buys a ticket and takes part on an equal basis; nothing is organised in advance and there are no designated workshop leaders or musicians – we find that this liberates enthusiastic amateurs, emerging teachers and budding musicians to have a go themselves.

OUR CORE VALUES:

Leave no trace: we leave the field as we find it;

Gifting: we share our gifts unconditionally;

Radical self-reliance: discovering inner resources;

Self-expression: everyone should be heard;

Communal effort: we value creative cooperation;

Shared responsibility: we all take care of the camp;

Participation: transformative change demands that we are not spectators in the game of life.
