East Coast Hospice Successful Landscaping event – over £1000 raised!

Gardening enthusiasts arrived at Southwold pavilion on the 23^rd of September 2104 to feed their habit whilst supporting East Coast Hospice. Chelsea flower show gold medallist Xa Tollemache captivated attendees with her stunning portfolio of formal gardens up and down the country, some even in the US! Her enthusiasm for horticulture and design came across in her talk, and inspired much debate over the plans for the hospice gardens.

Chairman of East Coast Hospice; Jennifer Beesley updated everyone on the plans so far for the hospice gardens. These include a memorial water feature, a shepherds hut, possibly a labyrinth and a vegetable plot to provide the hospice kitchens. She encouraged feedback and ideas from the crowd and got some really worthwhile suggestions to bear in mind when creating the gardens. Ultimately the hope is to form a hospice garden committee who will manage the planning and upkeep of the five acre plot of land near Beacon Park, Gorleston; Norfolk which is presently farmland.

Attendees were then treated to a wonderful spread of cold cuts, dressed salmon, salads, quiche, homemade pickles and elaborate deserts all kindly donated to the event. A big thank you must go to Elaine Fisher and her team of helpers who were essential to the smooth service of lunch which was enjoyed by all. A raffle was called by Amelia Chadd, daughter of Margaret Chadd (Trustee of ECH) and overall the event made an incredible £1000 towards the hospice gardens.

Margaret Chadd (Trustee of ECH and Southwold resident) said “I have had phone calls, emails, letters and verbal comments, from those present – all saying what a most enjoyable day, excellent talk and presentation and wonderful lunch.  They wish ECH well.”
