A special day highlighting the invaluable work of family carers is being held on 12 October 2012 in Martlesham, Suffolk.
The event – which is hosted by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust with support from charity Suffolk Family Carers – is aimed at carers of individuals who experience difficulties and challenges associated with mental illness.
The event on 12 October, 10am- 4pm, will be held in St Michael’s Church Centre on Martlesham Heath and is open to anyone from east Suffolk.
Tara Brown, acting modern matron at Woodlands mental health facility on the Heath Road hospital site, Ipswich, said: “The purpose of our family carers day is to provide information regarding what we as a service offer and how these services can be accessed, as well as provide sign posting to other agencies and resources within the community.”
The morning will be made up of four short presentations, which will be repeated from 1.30pm.
Both sessions will include:
• The contribution from carers to mental health service redesigns
• Carers’ health and wellbeing
• A carers’ treasure hunt, organised by Suffolk Family Carers
• Views, suggestions and hopes for future support
Tara added: “In addition to our speakers carers can pop along to visit our stalls, which will be filled with information about helping carers maintain their own wellbeing while looking after someone else.”
