NHS care this August Bank Holiday weekend
The NHS in central Norfolk is issuing advice about finding the most appropriate health care closer to home this Bank Holiday weekend. Everyone wants the holidays to go smoothly, but if they don’t and you need health advice or care from the NHS then here is how to find it.
For most of us minor injuries and illnesses can be treated using our own medicines cabinet at home. There is advice at www.nhs.uk about what to put in a medicine cabinet, including plasters, bandages and painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol, diarrhea treatments, rehydration salts, antihistamines and sunscreen.
Next stop might be a community pharmacy who can advise and help you treat a very wide range of problems. They will know what to do or can provide you with the kit you need – list below of opening times.
There are also excellent Walk-in Centres:
Timber Hill Health Centre in The Castle Mall, Norwich is open from 9am to 7pm seven days-a-week, 365-days-of-the-year. You can walk-in without an appointment to see a member of the medical staff. Patients get one hour free parking. Tel: 0300 0300 333 or visit the website www.timberhillhealthcentre.nhs.uk.
Cromer Minor Injuries Unit is open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week. The unit is based at Cromer Hospital on Mill Road, Cromer, NR27 0BQ Tel: 01603 646230. It is run by emergency nurse practitioners and experienced nurses who can see and treat all forms of minor injury.
For more serious problems, unless it is a genuine emergency, the next port of call is to phone 111 – the new 24-hour local helpline. 111 is staffed by trained NHS advisors who will help you find the right care you need, this includes the out of hours GP service. In some cases you may be offered advice over the phone, saving you time and worry.
During your GP’s normal opening hours you can call your GP.
