Inspiring Young Talent at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals Trust (NNUH) has earned a reaccreditation of a prestigious award.
The Responsible Business Awards run by Business in the Community has reaccredited the hospital for demonstrating the continual positive impact of its Young Talent scheme which encourages apprenticeships, pre-Apprenticeships and a range of Access to Work programmes.
The Award was originally presented last year for creating a range of initiatives to support employment and development for local young people including a brand of NHS apprenticeships that delivers opportunities in the local NHS.
Careers Development Co-ordinator Annie Cook said “Working in partnership with two local sixth forms we offer a Pre-Apprenticeship programme for students to support them in education by offering formal work experience. These students are guaranteed an interview for any apprenticeship post we have available subject to them completing their academic year, and obtaining a good set of references.”
Sam is about to take A level Maths and Business and has been working as part of the Pre- Apprenticeship programme in our Finance Department. The 18 year old has now secured an Assistant Financial Accountant post in the department and will join when he leaves school in July.
Sam from Sewell Sixth Form said “Having first-hand experience in the field has been priceless for one trying to make an entrance at such a junior level. Not only have I a much clearer picture in my head of where I can go to, and the various paths I can take, but I now have a focus for my studies at college, knowing where they can take me.’

From a business perspective these programmes enable us to ensure that we are giving young people with potential the opportunity to develop, ensuring we have a committed well trained and sustainable workforce to serve our patients. ”
BITC says the awards are rigorously assessed by business and other industry experts, they identify and celebrate businesses from all sectors that are transforming their communities and in turn their businesses to create a fairer society and a more sustainable future.
