An information day for men in west Norfolk who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, is being held in King’s Lynn later this month.

The Prostate Cancer Health & Wellbeing Event will provide information to those living with prostate cancer about treatments, side-effects, the benefits of physical activity and managing fatigue, sexual dysfunction and continence support.

Taking place on Friday, April 24 at the Knights Hill Hotel, South Wootton, from midday to 5pm, the event has been organised by the West Norfolk Community Cancer Support Service, run by Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C), in collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support.

The service helps cancer patients cope with their lives before, during and after treatment. It is a two year pilot run by NCH&C and commissioned by the West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group, and is delivered by a team of two cancer nurse specialists and two support workers who provide individualised care to patients in their own homes.

Nicky Dobson, NCH&C’s Community Cancer Nurse Specialist, said: “This aim of this event is to support patients by providing information, guidance and advice and promoting self-management of the condition.

“It’s a chance for people to gain knowledge and access to support as and when required and I would encourage anyone, especially those who have been recently diagnosed, and their families, to come along.”

Alongside the team from NCH&C, will be representatives from Macmillan Information and Support and Prostate Cancer UK.

The event has been partly funded by a recent donation to the West Norfolk Community Cancer Care Team from King’s Lynn-based estate agents Millsopps and local solicitors Ward Gethin Archer. They donated a percentage of profits made from handling the sale and rental of new properties between October and December last year.
