In celebration of Dementia Awareness Week 3 – 9 July Norfolk will be hosting the premiere of a poignant film to promote understanding of the condition.

The film, called Remember Me, is a passionate insight into people’s experiences of living with dementia, and has been commissioned by Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The film premieres during Dementia Awareness Week, at a special event at Cinema City, Norwich on Wednesday 6 July 2011.

Remember Me is a touching story that centres around a mother and daughter and takes a light-hearted look at their changing roles as dementia affects their lives.

Consultant Psychiatrist Hugo DeWaal, who works in the Trust’s older people’s services, said: “The great thing about this film is that it will make you laugh as well as make you think.


“It gives a positive and powerful snapshot of how dementia affects the persons living with the condition as well as the people that care for them.


“Dementia Awareness Week is all about raising awareness of dementia. We are really proud to be launching this film during the week, and encouraging the people of Norfolk to learn and gain more understanding about dementia.”

The film is designed to be used as an educational tool for both the general public and people working as healthcare professionals.

Trust Chair Maggie Wheeler said: “Dementia touches so many people’s lives and will continue to do so as our aging population carries on growing.


“I am proud of what the Trust has achieved in partnership with Nudge Productions in creating this film. I am positive that everyone who watches Remember Me will take something from it.”

Dementia Awareness Week takes place annually and is an event promoted by the Alzheimer’s Society, the leading charity organisation in the fight against dementia.
